We help people achieve their fullest life potential through innovative, non-invasive wearable neuroprosthetics technology.
We Make the Body Better
At AxioBionics, our mission is to help people achieve their fullest life potential by minimizing effects of prior injury and movement-oriented disabilities with wearable, non-invasive neuroprosthetics technology.
Since 1993, we have designed and fitted approximately 10,000 custom wearable electrical muscle stimulation systems for people with significant disabilities and medical conditions, including spinal cord injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, chronic pain, and more.

Our Founder
Philip Muccio
Founder & Certified Prosthetist-Orthotist (CPO)
Philip Muccio was born with bilateral club feet and endured several surgeries as a child to realign his feet, followed by healing periods in a full cast. This early experience with orthopedic care gave him a deeply personal understanding of the challenges faced by those living with physical disabilities and motivated him to pursue a career in helping others.
He earned his B.S. in Orthotics and Prosthetics from the University of Washington and completed his residency at the Cleveland Clinic. He also served as a Clinical Orthotist and Prosthetist at Hanger Clinic. While at the Cleveland VA Medical Research and Education Foundation, he was involved in FES research where researchers were implanting wires in the muscles of paralyzed individuals to help them stand and walk.
In 1993, Philip founded AxioBionics in Columbus, Ohio, combining his background in prosthetics, orthotics, and medical electronics to engineer the first custom-designed wearable neuro-prosthetic "suit." His philosophy: "Tapping into the resources of the human body" — instead of freezing joints, they liberate them; instead of allowing muscles to lay dormant, they encourage them; instead of succumbing to pain and disability, they find ways to overcome problems by using the body's own physiological processes. By 1995, he received FDA clearance to begin selling products — his first-generation suit resolved a patient's chronic pain from fibromyalgia.
One of his first high-profile clients was actor Christopher Reeve, for whom Philip developed a custom-made electrical stimulation therapy suit after Reeve's 1995 riding accident. The suit helped limit muscle atrophy and improve circulation.
In 2010, AxioBionics relocated from Columbus, Ohio to Scio Township in the Ann Arbor, Michigan area. Today, Philip leads a team of 10-12 employees and has designed and fitted approximately 10,000 wearable therapy suits, ranging from $2,500 to $20,000 each. He continues to expand what he calls "Axio 2.0" — therapeutics for sports, first responders, military, and other patient groups.
