Jessica's Story
Traumatic Brain Injury
“Today Jessica's arm is fully relaxed and flexible, which allows her to use the arm more often.”
— Jessica
Jessica sustained a traumatic brain injury at age 4, which partially paralyzed her left arm. She was left with muscle atrophy, severe muscle spasms, and joint stiffness. Her arm was mostly held at 90 degrees of elbow flexion — not very functional.
Thirty years after her TBI, Jessica was fitted with an Upper Extremity BioSleeve designed to stimulate the deltoid, triceps, and finger extensors throughout the day.
She wears the BioSleeve 12 hours a day, 5 days a week. Today Jessica's arm is fully relaxed and flexible, which allows her to use the arm more often.
She is more engaged in yoga, exercise, and at her workshop — demonstrating that even decades after an injury, wearable neuromuscular electrical stimulation therapy can make a meaningful difference.
